Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySARA (UNGER) PETERS Peacefully on Monday June 25, 2001, our beloved mother, grandmother and great- grandmother passed away. Sara Peters was born August 31, 1909 in the district of Terek, Russia to Cornelius and Sarah (Schmidt) Unger. In 1918 she was forced to flee with her family from Terek and after a year of travel they finally landed in Alexanderpol where her grandparents lived. From there the family immigrated to Canada in 1924 and lived in Morden for approximately two years. In 1927 they moved to Steinbach where they had bought a farm. She was baptized June 22, 1930 and married Mr. Peter H. Peters on July 14, 1935. They homesteaded in Mitchell district where Mr. Peters passed away in 1958. She continued to homestead there until 1967. She sold the homestead and moved to Steinbach where she worked for Dons Bakery for several years and played a very active role in the MCC Thrift Shop. She was a very dedicated volunteer at the Personal Care Home for some 20 plus years. Her unwavering faith in her Lord and Saviour was fundamental to her belief in the Mennonite religion. She applied it to her every day life and this was attested to by her love and devotion to her garden and yard. She was also predeceased by two brothers and one sister in infancy as well as siblings, Helen, Betty, Justina, Cornelius and George. She was also predeceased by the brothers and sisters of her late husband. Left to cherish her memory are her son Peter (Helen) Peters; daughter Anne (Ernie) Doerksen, both of Winnipeg. Grandchildren, Jared Peters; Lolita (Kerry) Burke of Winnipeg; Shannon (Uli) Scheurer of Lorette; and Miles Doerksen (Jaylyn Helgason) of Zhoda. Great-grandchildren, are Karlee and Devin Burke, Ryan, Anika and Christian Scheuer. Her surviving sisters, are Mary Voth of Winnipeg, Anne and Kathrina of Steinbach. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the staff at the Bethesda Personal Care Home facility for their loving care and attention to our mother and us. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to MCC. Funeral services will be held at the Steinbach Mennonite Church (345 Loewen Blvd.), Friday June 29 at 2:00 p.m. with interment at Heritage Cemetery.
