MARY HARGREAVES It is with great sadness the family announces the death of our beloved wife, mother and grandmother at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Tuesday, June 26, 2001. Mary was born in Preeceville, SK on November 26, 1924 and she spent her early years in Neepawa, MB. She graduated from the Misericordia School of Nursing in the Class of 1945. Mary worked as a registered nurse in Winnipeg, Neepawa and Vancouver, and was the Matron at the Souris Hospital. On May 23, 1951 she married Garry Hargreaves. Mary and Garry eventually settled in Winnipeg to raise their family. While the family was growing up she was active in the Silver Heights United Church teaching Sunday School and Explorers. In 1971 the family moved to Brandon. Garry retired from a 38-year career with Manitoba Hydro in 1983. Garry and Mary have shared wonderful retirement years at their busy family home in Brandon and the cabin at Clear Lake. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary surrounded by their family. Mary was devoted to her family, always putting their needs before her own. She took great joy in her children and grandchildren, sharing in their accomplishments over the years. Her love of cards and games was shared with her bridge clubs and her grandchildren. Mary is survived by her beloved husband Garry; her son Bill and wife Patty and their children, Geordie, Michael and Garry; daughter Lois and husband John Macpherson; son Bruce and wife Karen and their children, Natasha, David and Dillan; son Ken; sister-in-law Doreen Davidson; and many nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by her father Jack Adrian Davidson, mother Claire Davidson, and brother John Davidson. The Service of Thanksgiving for the life of Mary was held at Memories Chapel, 330 - 18th St. North, Brandon, on Friday, June 29 at 11:00 p.m. The Rev. John Nesbitt of Trinity United Church officiated. Honorary pallbearers were grandchildren, Geordie, Michael, Garry, Natasha, David, and Dillan Hargreaves. A graveside service was held at the family plot in the Riverside Cemetery, Neepawa, on Friday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. Flowers are gratefully declined. Friends who wish may make a donation in memory of Mary to the Westman Dream for Kids Foundation, 1435 Princess Ave., Brandon, MB R7A 0R6, or to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7. Arrangements were with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 204-727-0330.
