LELA ALBERTA McQUADE (MAINLAND) (nee DODDS) 1909 - 2001 With deep regret we announce the passing of our Aunt Lela McQuade on June 24, 2001, at the St. Boniface Hospital. She was predeceased by her parents, William and Rose Dodds; sisters, Rhoda and Muriel; her brothers, Howard and Wilbur. Lela was born and raised in Winnipeg. She married Bill Mainland and lived in Norwood until the death of Uncle Bill, April 20, 1981. Aunt Lela moved to Sandy Hook and Gimli following marriage to Norm McQuade (died August 5, 1997). She enjoyed the years she lived in Sandy Hook and Gimli, enjoyed the puppy, Tiki, her many new friends and having the companionship of sister Rhoda who also lived in Gimli. Her health failed and she moved to Rosewood Village in Winnipeg in September, 1999. Her friends at Rosewood will miss her. Lela is survived by niece Beverley (Dick) Paulley, their son Gordon (Rose), sons, Nick and Steven; nephew Kenneth (Gail) Dodds and son Geoffrey; nephew Ralph (Beverley) Herget, children Rory (Kelly), children Connor and Anna and Danielle (Christian) Herget-Schmidt; daughter Madison; nephew Vern Herget, his children David and Chandler. Many friends remain to mourn her passing, in particular, her special friend, Linda who brought much joy to Aunt Lelas life. Our Aunt was a gentle and talented lady. She created beautiful needlework that her family and friends often were fortunate to receive. Aunt Lela was brave and considerate even when suffering with failing health. She will be greatly missed. Our sincere appreciation is extended to the staff at St. Boniface Hospital for the compassionate care of our Aunt. We want to acknowledge the staff at Rosewood Village for their care and friendship while our Aunt lived there. In honour of Aunt Lelas wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be a private graveside service at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens on Friday, June 29 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent St., Winnipeg, R2L 1X3 would be appreciated. Aunt Lela, you will always be in our thoughts and prayers. Arrangements entrusted to Bardal Funeral Home, 774-7474.
