ANNA GABA It is with deep sorrow that the family announces the passing of our dearly beloved mother and grandmother on Wednesday, June 27, 2001 at the age of 81. Peacefully, with her family at her side, she left to her heavenly reward. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 40 years in 1989. Anna was born in Ustianova, Bobitbulkload Shanik, Ukraine on December 21, 1919 to Paraska Sawchuk and Joseph Krawchuk. Orphaned at a young age, Anna endured and survived many hardships that befell her homeland. At the age of 18, she left Ukraine for Germany and on September 19, 1948 she married her beloved husband, Yaroslaw, in Littleborough, England. Shortly after, they immigrated to Canada and after a brief residence in Stornoway, SK, they settled in the Point Douglas area of Winnipeg where they raised five children. Anna was a devoted and caring wife, mother and Baba. She was an excellent cook and homemaker. She welcomed and cared for those in need including our feathered and four-legged friends. To everyone she met or knew, she was known as MAMA or BABA GABA. Anna helped support the family by working with banquet caterers, the Royal Alexander Hotel, the International Inn and providing home care visits. Her children have fond memories of summers at the Ukrainian Park Camp while Mom worked in the kitchen. Anna particularly enjoyed her gardening, fishing and camping. She was of strong faith and instilled the meaning of faith in God in her family. Anna was a member of the Ukrainian Catholic Womens League, the Sisterhood at St. Andrews Ukrainian Catholic Church and a supporting member of the Ukrainian Literary Society of Markian Shashkevich. Anna will be sadly missed by her children, George and Sylvia Gaba, Peter Gaba, Linda Gaba, Irene and Dennis Glowasky, Walter and Bev Gaba, Ann and Len Berard; grandchildren, Tanya and Cory Kohut, Sharon Gaba, Paul and Michael Gaba, Jason and Ryan Glowasky, Jennifer and Jerry Gaba, Adam and Monica Berard. She will be sadly missed by relatives, friends, neighbours, and her faithful companions, Ginger and Susie. Prayers will be sung on Monday, July 2, 7:00 p.m. at St. Andrews Ukrainian Catholic Church, 160 Euclid Ave. Divine liturgy will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 3, 10:30 a.m., also at the church, with Rt. Rev. Canon W. Klimchak officiating. Interment to follow at Holy Family Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Jason, Ryan, Adam, Paul, Jerry and Michael. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, the Winnipeg Humane Society or a charity of choice. The family wishes to express our sincere appreciation for the excellent and compassionate care provided by doctors and staff of WRS5 at the Womens Centre and homecare workers.
