KAREN MARLANE NIKKEL May 25, 1954 - June 28, 2001 With true grace and dignity, Karen Nikkel passed away at the St.Boniface Hospital with her husband and daughters by her side. She will be eternally missed and cherished by her husband of 16 years Charlie; daughters, Lisa and Janis; son-in-law Scott Ramsay; and new granddaughter Jasmine. Left to celebrate her life are her mother Dorothy Campbell; brother Vern Campbell (Debbie) sisters, Judy Park (Jim), Connie Woods (Jack), Debbie Cooney and Ellen Law (Greg) mother-in-law Anne Nikkel; brother-in-law Gene (Mary) and sister-in-law Peggy (Rob). Also left to continue her legacy are numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, wonderful neighbours, and dear friends, with special note to close friend, Vi Pelletier. Karen was preceded by her father Roy Campbell; her first husband Larry Ricker; Larrys mother Grace Wilder; brother-in-law Marlow Cooney; father-in-law Abe Nikkel; and treasured companion Goldie. Karen was born in Glenboro, MB and grew up in Belmont. Marrying in 1971, Karen and Larry Ricker had Lisa Marlane and spent the first few years in Baldur. After moving to Brandon, Janis Grace was born. After Larrys tragic passing, Karen remarried Charles Nikkel in 1984 and the family moved to St. Adolphe. Karen continued her work with the provincial government for many years. She enjoyed gardening, and reading but most importantly she enjoyed her family. Karen was a loving daughter, a dear wife, an absolutely amazing mother, and a true gift to all whom could call her family. Karen was blessed with a beautiful gift before her passing in the birth of her granddaughter Jasmine Grace on May 7. She was a part of Jasmines first day and enjoyed each moment of being a new grandma. Jasmine was a true gift and gave joy to Karen, our family and the hospital staff during this difficult time. She will always be our gift of grace. We would like to thank all of the medical persons who cared for mom from the very beginning of her journey. We extend our gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff of 7A south at the St. Boniface Hospital. Gratitude also to Timothy from Pastoral Care for the spiritual guidance and comfort he gave. We offer Rev. Sharon Wilson our thanks for the comfort, dedication, the humour, and the support during moms final days and hours. Many thanks also to Linda McKellar for the support, understanding, and compassion you showed mom and our entire family. Individual thanks to nurses, Karen, Giselle, Heather and Chris for the love and care you gave our mom. Also a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Benson Yip. You cared for, and about the greatest woman in our lives and for that we are forever grateful. May you never lose the compassion you showed to us, it makes you a wonderful doctor and an even greater human being! Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Karens life will be held on Sunday, July 1 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. (South of the Royal Canadian Mint), at 11:00 a.m. with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity of your choice in Karens memory. Also to honor her memory and her spirit, "...do not strive to do great things, but rather do small things with great passion".
