JOHN HENRY HUMMERSTON Passed away June 24, 2001 at the age of 78 years after a brief battle with cancer. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife Jean; daughter Gail Tilling (Ken) of Dugald, MB; sons, Tom (Mira), Les (Jean), Ken (Debbie) all of Winnipeg; grandchildren, Shane, Dennis, Jason, Carey, Tanya, Kelly, Erin and Sean; also great-grandchildren, Javon and Katherine. John was predeceased by his brothers, Tom, Bill and Herbert. John was born in Portage la Prairie where he spent his childhood. He later moved to Winnipeg where he met Jean and they were married on December 15, 1945. John served with the Royal Canadian Engineers, 1st Division, 4th Field Company in Sicily and Italy during the Second World War. John worked in Winnipeg for the CPR for 37 and one-half years before he retired and moved to Oliver, BC. Mom and Dad later moved to Penticton where they resided until Dads death. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially at the cottage in Lac du Bonnet, MB. Dad was an active member in the Army, Navy Unit No. 283 and was a past Master of the Ancient and honourable order of Free and Accepted Masons. The family would like to express our appreciation to his many friends, especially Lois, Joyce and to Dr. Gill and the wonderful staff at the Moog & Friends Hospice House. Cremation has already taken place and a memorial service will follow at Chapel Lawn, Winnipeg on July 12 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Moog & Friends Hospice House, 1701 Government St., Penticton, BC, V2A 8J7 or the Canadian Institute for the Blind.
