ALFRED OAKLEY Peacefully, after a long illness, on July 4, 2001 at Deer Lodge Centre, Alfred Oakley passed away. Alfred leaves to cherish his memory his children, Ted (Gerry), Don (Jeannine), Lynne (Les) grandchildren, Dawn, Clint, Gary, Chris, Tom, Louise, Jennifer, Brian and Jason as well as 10 great-grandchildren; sister Jean and brother Ed. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Bertha in 1984; grandson Kevin; brothers, Leonard, Hudson and Bill and sisters, Ivy and Dolly. Alfred was a long time resident of Middlechurch where he grew up and raised his family. He started his career with the Manitoba Good Roads. Once the Second World War broke out, Alfred served his country overseas for five years. He was always proud of being a veteran. Upon returning to Canada he spend the remainder of his career working for the Board of Grain Commissioners for many years. He later enjoyed a long retirement travelling and gardening. Alfred was well liked by all those who got to know him and will be sadly missed. "Hell always be remembered As a man, both strong and good, Who gave his best for others And who did the best he could. Hell always be remembered For all the joy he brought, As a man who made a difference And a man who meant a lot." Alfreds family would like to thank all the nurses and staff at Seven Oaks General Hospital and on E3 at Deer Lodge Centre for their kind and compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Alfreds memory to the Deer Lodge Foundation. A celebration of Alfreds life will take place at 12:00 noon on Saturday, July 7 in the reception centre at Glen Eden Funeral Home.
