DONALD ALEXANDER SPEIRS At his residence, Tarrow House, River Road, St. Andrews, on July 7, 2001, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Born May 22, 1923, second son the late James W. and Elizabeth Speirs. Predeceased by his beloved eldest daughter Rennie Elizabeth and by his brothers, J. Gordon Speirs and Douglas R. Speirs. Survived by his two children, Laurie Alexandra Bicknell, her husband Ken, and their children, Sydney, Bridget, Drew and Audrey; and Glen Donald Speirs, his wife Tamara, and their daughter Lindsay; as well as by the mother of his children, Ann M. Speirs. Also survived by sisters-in-law, Joan Speirs and Mildred Speirs, and their children and grandchildren. Don was well respected throughout North America as a leader in the dairy industry. He was Vice President of the Modern Dairies group of companies which he managed and ultimately sold to Beatrice Foods Inc. He was a lifelong member of the Manitoba Dairy Association and the Canadian Dairy Association. He was a proud longtime member of the St. Andrews Society. Don was a devoted and loyal friend to many. He will be fondly remembered by all who knew him. The family extend their gratitude to the Selkirk/St. Andrews home care workers, Mr. Jim Scribner, and the many friends who so faithfully offered their compassion and care to Don in his final days. Funeral service was held on Wednesday, July 11, 2001 at Thomson Funeral Chapel. Interment, Brookside Cemetery. Remembrances may be made in his memory to St. Amant Centre or the Canadian Cancer Society.
