ILEANA ELSIE GRAHAM (nee FINNIE) Peacefully, on July 4, 2001, Ileana Graham passed away at the Grace Hospital. Ileana was pre-deceased by her loving husband Alexander Graham as well as two brothers, Jack was killed in action in 1944 and Alex passed away in 1996. Ileana will be lovingly remembered by her nephew John Finnie (and Diane and family in Nanaimo, including great-nieces, Karly and Kyla and great great nieces, Jamie and Abbie) as well as by cousins in Canada and Britain. Ileana was born on January 30, 1911, in Benoni, South Africa. She immigrated to Canada as a young child with her parents Alex and Lizzie Finnie. Ileana attended Lord Selkirk, St. Johns High, and Winnipeg Normal Schools, and taught school at Clandeboye. She was a member of the Winnipeg One School Division staff for several years, but left teaching to become the late Dr. L.A. Sigurdsons assistant and worked in the Medical Arts Building for many years. Ileana and Alex were married on September 17, 1938. Ileana loved to travel and was an avid reader. She attended the Winnipeg Symphony regularly and was a resident of Winnipegs West End for 60 years. A favourite retreat was the family cottage at Matlock. A kind and generous soul with a quick mind and a keen interest in politics, Ileana had an extensive circle of friends, locally and around the world. Her friendship will be missed. Memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 9 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Interment will follow in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens and a reception for family and friends will be held in the Chapel Lawn Reception Centre. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made in Ileanas memory to the Winnipeg Childrens Hospital Foundation, 501-840 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB, R3A 1S1 or to the Rainbow Society, 302-171 Donald St., Winnipeg, M,B R3C 1M4 (A child, a wish, a dream come true.).
