WILLIAM (BILL) EDWARD JAMES DUECK Peacefully, on July 5, 2001, surrounded by the love of his wife Juliana; children, Dorie-Anna and Trevor; and brother Richard, dad received Gods blessed healing. He will remain in our hearts and lives forever. Also mourning his loss are Sandybug and his boys Charlie and Calvin; parents, William and Olga; brother Gerald (Barbara) Dueck; sister Sharon (Eric) Marshall; mother-in-law Olga Tiessen; and extended family. Dads first love was his family. His greatest joy was spending time at the cottage with Juliana, taking walks to the pier and the marina. He guided and protected his children throughout their lives. He proudly moved his daughter to Ottawa last year for her new job. He loved helping his son rebuild his Mustang and the Jeep - time after time - and watching wrestling together. Dad could always be found puttering around on his boat, in the garage, or working on his computer. He never seemed to have enough gadgets! How Dad loved to sail! He was actively involved with the Canadian Yachting Association and the Canadian Power Squadron, achieving district commander status. He authored several articles in sailing journals. Dad was a popular and respected sailing instructor. We are very proud of his recent recognition as an instructor evaluator, which he received despite his illness. He taught his daughter sailing, encouraging her to find peace with the wind and water by feeling the tiller hum. Dad also enjoyed many trips with his brothers on the west coast and in Hawaii. He purchased his dreamboat last year, a Bayfield 29. Sadly, he was unable to begin a second sailing session on the Amarylis. When not on the water, Dad was a technical officer with Manitoba Hydro and an expert in circuit breakers. As well, he was a part-time consultant for electrical testing equipment and a member of the Canadian Institute of Management. Dad became ill six months ago, and will be remembered for his courage and determination, refusing to let it define his life. It was an honour for us to care for him. We are grateful to Dr. A. Maksymiuk for never giving up hope and to Tawny Landon for her wonderful support through this difficult time. We are also very thankful to nurse Audra and Lino on D4 HSC for their compassionate and dignified care of Dad. A celebration of Dads life will be held on Saturday, July 14, at the McIvor Avenue Mennonite Brethren Church, 200 McIvor Ave. at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to CancerCare Manitoba; or become an organ or bone marrow donor so that others may have the gift of life. One ship sails east One ship sails west Regardless of how the winds blow Its the set of the sail And not the gale That determines the way we go. (Swindoll) I love you Bill. Thank you Dad. Arrangements entrusted to Klassen Funeral Chapel, 338-0331.
