Born: Jun 24, 1979
Date of Passing: Jul 06, 2001
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOEL TIMOTHY RIECK June 24, 1979 - July 6, 2001 On July 6, surrounded by his family, Joel went peacefully to be with His Saviour after a brief but courageous fight with cancer in the St. Boniface Hospital. Left to cherish his memory are his parents, Tim and Barb; and siblings, Troy and Breanne; plus countless relatives and friends. Joel lived a very fulfilling life by touching many other lives. One of his main characteristics was of loving everyone, no matter who they were or how they treated him. He had a deep understanding of Jesus love for him and thus could give it away. His consistency and maturity were part of him even at a young age and contentment and endurance were found in him in all his lifes circumstances. Joel loved sports, basketball being his favourite and was recognized for this talent in his years of high school at College Pierre Elliot Trudeau. He also had a passion for the outdoors, enjoying to the fullest camping (especially at Lake of the Woods), canoeing, hiking, and just taking off for a weekend trip spontaneously. He was a strong, healthy young man who spent three summers tree planting and learning lots about himself and life during that time. He spent a memorable year in Sweden at Bible School after graduation from high school, making many lifelong friends. The last three years were spent at the University of Winnipeg in education where he was very involved in the Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship on campus. He also served in different ways in his church, Winnipeg Centre Vineyard. People mattered to him and yet at the same time he enjoyed time on his own reading and writing. Through watching Joel live and die we have learned how to live in light of eternity. "Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some stay for awhile and have foot prints in our hearts, and we are never the same." The family wishes to thank the Ward 5B staff of the St. Boniface Hospital. The care, sensitivity and support in action and attitude were instrumental in Joels emotional and health care needs. As family we valued the supportive role as we walked out this difficult time. To Dr. M. Krahn and Dr. W. Libich, a special thanks for being both doctors and friends to Joel. To Joels friends we want to say that we caught a glimpse of our sons many faceted sides through his relationship with you. We want you to know God is faithful to meet us in all of lifes circumstances and He met Joel and us through you. To our friends and family we are at a loss for words. You have been with us throughout this time...thanks. Your intercessory prayers, notes of encouragement, tears and concern are helping us walk out this tragedy in our lives. A memorial service will be held on July 11, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bethlehem Aboriginal Fellowship Church, corner of Burrows and Charles. Please come dressed casually, as Joel knew you best. Any memorial contributions in lieu of flowers can be made to Winnipeg Centre Vineyard, 960 Main St., Winnipeg, MB R2W 3P4. This will be used towards the "Farm" where the outdoors and ministry to the broken are combined.
