Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN ROBERT WATERS M.D. FRCP(C) Dr. John Robert Waters passed away gently on July 6, 2001 at the age of 58 after having lived with cancer for the past five and one-half years. John will be lovingly remembered by his spouse and companion Jean; his daughter Marianne; and son-in-law Joseph Logan; and son Bob, all of Edmonton. He is also survived by his brother Neil Waters of Winnipeg; his brother-in-law Bill Downie (Johnie) of Kelowna; and nieces and nephews. John grew up in Winnipeg and was a graduate of the University of Manitoba Medical College (1966). For the past 21 years he has been employed as the Provincial Health Officer, Alberta Health and Wellness. John was passionate about child health, communicable disease control and preventative medicine. He was widely respected in the Public Health field and by his colleagues in Alberta, across Canada and around the world. John enjoyed family and friends. He also enjoyed travel, especially exploring Scotland; the outdoors; and his dog Skye. He was an active member of St. Andrews United Church and was Board Secretary for many years. The family would like to thank Dr. Peter Venner and the staff at the Cross Cancer Institute for their care and compassion. For those who wish, in lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to the Cross Cancer Institute, in care of the Alberta Cancer Foundation, 11560 University Ave., Edmonton, AB T6G 1Z2; or to the memorial fund of St. Andrews United Church. A memorial service will be held at St. Andrews United Church, 9915-148 St., Edmonton at 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 9 with the Rev. Dr. Geoffrey Wilfong-Pritchard officiating.
