JOHN It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Branson St. John on July 7, 2001, at the River East Personal Care Home, at the age of 87. Branson is survived by his wife Clara (Dobbelaere) brother Sidney Smith (Irma) of Ottawa; nieces, Beverley Weinreich, Iona Peters (Herb), Georgina Yarema and Kathleen Smith; nephews, Donald St. John, Glen and Brian Smith; as well as many great-nieces and nephews. Branson was predeceased by his mother Adelaide Smith (Bishop) his father Branson; brothers, Wilfred and Roy St. John and William Smith; sisters, Evelyn Collinge and Iona Coote. He was a longtime owner of St. Johns Hobbycraft on Portage Avenue and a member of the Western Canadian Aviation Museum. He built many model airplanes in his basement and participated in several radio controlled airplane competitions. After 64 years in the model airplane craft, he was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the Model Aeronautics Association of Canada. He will be sadly missed by all his remaining relatives and friends. A funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 11 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Interment will follow in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bransons memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society, 120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2.
