RHODA BATES Our dear sister and aunt passed away Tuesday, July 10, 2001, after a long battle with cancer, at age 71. Rhoda was born in Winnipeg on July 30, 1929 and lived there all her life. Rhoda is survived by her brother Bert (Frances) Bates of Surrey, BC; nieces and nephews, Judy Smith, Sandra (Harry) Fischer, Pat (Don) Santa, Andrew (Mary-Frances) Kandel, Lynne (Bill) Schuurman and Michael (Colleen) Kandel of Alberta and their children. She was predeceased by her mother Violet Bates; and her sister Violet Kandel. Funeral service will be held on Friday, July 13 at 12:30 p.m., at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Interment and reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, should friends so desire, donations in memory of Rhoda may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, ON109-675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3C 0V9.
