HELEN SABINE After a short, acute illness, Helen passed away peacefully with her daughter Judy and friend Gail Gulenchyn at her side. Helen was predeceased by her husband Douglas in 1993; son-in law Raj in 1987; and her brothers, Harold, Hector, and Ronald. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Judith; grandchildren, Sabrina and Justin; brother Kenneth of Humboldt, SK; sister Margaret of Souris, MB; as well as several nieces, nephews and their families. Helen was born and raised on November 26, 1920, in Humboldt, SK. She moved to Winnipeg in 1941 to enter nurses training at the Winnipeg General Hospital, graduating in 1944. She worked at Deer Lodge Hospital where she met and married her husband Douglas. Then she worked at the Womans Pavilion for several years. Her hobbies included sewing, knitting, and growing flowers. She enjoyed going to the cottage and passed many happy days there. She was a very strong person, nursing her husband through many illnesses and helping to care for her grandchildren, whom she adored. All of this done while coping with her own medical problems. Through her last years she enjoyed living at The Westhaven, where she made several new friends and enjoyed playing cards. Special thanks to Dr. R. Albak and Roseanne for the special care given to my mother. To her friends, Helga Scott, Jean Jamieson, Irene Cooke, and Muriel Baker-thank you for your friendship and support given to Helen. Special thanks also to nurses Leslie Watson and Cheryl Telford at Grace Hospital Emergency Department, to David and co-workers at Grace Hospital Radiology Department and Dr. Malik and nurse Heather at HSC Emergency, Jacques of SICU, nurses on A3 Stepdown Unit, and Dr. "Sammy" of Gold Service at HSC.
