Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHERB SKOGAN December 11, 1918 - July 10, 2001 It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of our husband, dad, and grandpa, Herb Skogan, aged 82, on Tuesday, July 10, 2001 at the Teulon Hunter Memorial Hospital. Herb was born in Inwood, MB on December 11, 1918. Along with his parents, Andrew and Karin and his sisters, Alice, Olga, and Doris, they moved to the Stacpoole District northeast of Teulon in 1926. Herb worked hard with his family to clear the land and establish a productive farm. Herb and Helen were married on May 15, 1943. Side by side, they worked hard to operate a mixed farming operation. In earlier years, Herb worked for Nelson River Construction in Winnipeg. During that time, they started hog farming and then his beloved farm became his full time job. His farming interests never diminished as he grew older as the spring of 2000 found Dad busy harrowing - much to his delight. Mom and Dad retired to Teulon in 1995 where their yard became a showcase of flowers. Friends and neighbours were always an important part of Dads day. No task was ever beyond Dads ability when help was needed. Lifelong friendships were formed when they travelled to Sweden in 1985. There was always company at Mom and Dads home visiting, playing cards, or just chatting over a cup of coffee and Moms fresh baking. Dads family were his pride and joy. Family gatherings were always a time of fun and laughter, often telling us of the old days. Dad supported our decisions along the way through his quiet manner. He was a husband, father, and grandpa to be proud of through the years. Dad is leaving us a legacy of honesty, hard work, and integrity to follow. He showed us how to live and love, laugh and cry, and to be the best one can be. Left to cherish his memories forever are his wife of 58 years, Helen; sons, Bill and Bert; daughter Karen Willis; daughters-in-law, Sandra and Shirley; son-in-law Lyle Willis; his five grandchildren, Lana (Kelly), Ingrid, Eric, Karla, and Kyle; two sisters, Olga MacRae, and Doris Bond; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Herb was predeceased by his parents, Andrew and Karin; sister Alice Campbell; and three brothers-in-law, Stu Campbell, Rod MacRae, and Willie Bond. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 15 at 2:00 p.m. at the Teulon Rockwood Centennial Centre with Rev. Ken Anstie officiating. Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorial donations may be made to Teulon United Church or The Hunter Memorial Hospital, Teulon. At this time, Herbs family would like to offer their heartfelt appreciation to all the doctors and staff at the Teulon Hospital for their care and compassion for Dad during his illness. Your kindness will always be remembered. In tears we saw you sinking We watched you fade away, You suffered much in silence You fought so hard to stay. You faced your task with courage Your spirit did not bend, But still you kept on fighting Until the very end. God saw you getting tired And a cure was not to be, So He put His arms around you And whispered "Come with Me". So when we saw you sleeping So peaceful free from pain, We could not wish you back To suffer that again. Our family chain is broken And nothing seems the same, As God calls us one by one Our chain will link again. "Youll always be in our thoughts." Mackenzie Funeral Home, Teulon, in care of arrangements.
