ALICE VIVIAN KAPLAN (nee BAKER) Sorrowfully, we announce the sudden but peaceful passing of our beloved mother on July 5, 2001. Predeceased by her husband Eli; parents, Joseph and Jennie Baker; her brothers, Alex, Dr. Bill, Dr. Louis and Harry Baker of Vancouver. Survived by her daughters, Judy Kaplan, Barbara Browne Haier and her husband Soren and her granddaughters, Elana and Mira of Toronto; her sister Connie Bermack and brother Sam Baker. Alice was born in Winnipeg, June 20, 1907. She was educated in Winnipeg and taught school in Whytewold, SK and at Aberdeen School in Winnipeg. Always active in the community, she was a Past President of the Jewish Womens Musical Club and Past Matron of The Harmony Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star. Past President of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Assiniboine Figure Skating Club. She will be remembered by all those she touched for her flaming red hair, her sincere warmth, enduring sunny and cheerful personality which stayed with her till her final moments. Our sincere appreciation to caregivers Tess Sayas and Debbie Dela Cruz who were a great comfort and help to Alice in her later years. Our gratitude to the Winnipeg Fire Department, the Paramedics and staff of the Emergency Unit and Fifth Floor, Unit 6 Cardiology Seven Oaks Hospital. Services were held Monday, July 9 at Shaarey Zedek Memorial Park with Rabbi Peretz Weizman officiating. Remembrances may be made to a charity of your choice. Alzheimers Prayer Dear Lord, please grant my visitors tolerance for my confusion, forgiveness for my irrationality and the strength to walk with me in the mist of memory my world has become. Please help them take my hand and stay awhile even though I seem unaware of their presence. Help them to know how their strength and loving care will drift slowly into the days to come just when I need it most. Let them know when I dont recognize them that I will... I will... keep their hearts free of sorrow for me... for my sorrow, when it comes, only lasts a moment. And finally God, please let them know how very much their visits mean, how even through this relentless mystery, I can feel their love.
