PETER FRANK MAZUR Peacefully on Friday, July 13, 2001 at the age of 87 years, Peter Frank Mazur beloved husband of the late Sally Mazur passed away with his family by his side. Peter leaves to cherish his memory, his sons, Lloyd Mazur (Sylvia) and their children Kimberley and fiance Cory; Kevin (Renee) and their children Brett, Brooke and Taylor; Ron Mazur (Ilonka) and their children Jonathan, Daniel and Michael; Richard Mazur (Debbie) and their children Timothy and Leah; Ned Mazur (Carla) and their children Holly, Garret and Evan; and daughter-in-law Gwen Mazur and her children Neal and Allison. Also surviving is a brother Albert Mazur of Hamilton, ON. Peter was predeceased by his wife Sally; his son Garry; as well as four brothers and five sisters. Dads parents, Frank and Sadie (Holigrowski) came to Canada from the small village of Suchowola, Ukraine, and settled on the original family homestead in Brokenhead in 1905. Dad was born at home on July 14, 1914. Dad went to Brokenhead School. As he was growing up, Dad worked at home on the farm, but also travelled afar, riding the rails to places like Yorkton, SK where he worked on harvesting crews. As he got older, he worked in bush camps in the Pointe du Bois area where he cut logs and made railway ties - all with a hand saw and axe. Dad purchased his own 160 acre farm (SW26-14-7E) in 1937. He married mom, Sadie Bahry in 1942, and moved into the log house in which we all grew up. Dad and Mom operated a mixed farm that grew in size over the year as he acquired another 160 acres. He also worked outside the farm at Burns in Winnipeg, the Manitoba Telephone System, and the Water Controls Department, building wood bridges and across drainage ditches and provincial roads. On the farm, Dad was not only a successful farmer, he was also a mechanic, and a self-taught architect of numerous farm buildings, including the arch roof barn and machine shop. Dad retired from active farming in 1975, however, he and mom continued to live on the farm for several more years. In 1996 they sold the farm and moved into a rented house in Beausejour. Although Dad braved many hardships in his life, the biggest was the loss of his wife, who he loved dearly, followed shortly by his son Garry. In his retirement years, Dad enjoyed gardening, playing cards and woodworking. He spent endless hours making lawn ornaments and bird feeders that adorn all of our yards. Dad also enjoyed the numerous blueberry picking trips each summer. Although not a world traveller, Dad had fond memories of the few trips he and mom took, particularly his visit to Ned and Carla in Calgary, the trip with Steve and Josie to California, and the camping trip with Ron and Ilonka to visit brother Albert in Hamilton, ON. Since the loss of his wife Sally, Dad also showed us his talent for cooking. His greatest joy in life was the visits from his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He spared no effort to ensure he had the house stocked for a great Sunday meal for visitors and numerous goodies for the kids. Together with mom, dad managed to raise his family and provided all of the boys with an education. But more importantly, through his example, he instilled in all of us the value of hard work and honest living. Prayers will be said on Monday, July 16 at 7:30 p.m. from Russell Funeral Homes, Beausejour, MB. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 17 at 10:00 a.m. from the St. Joseph Polish National Church, Beausejour, MB with Fr. Wesley Cwieka officiating. Interment in the Parish Cemetery. The family would like to thank Dr. Zeiler and the nursing staff of the Beausejour Hospital for the care and compassion shown to us and to our father during this most difficult time, it will not be forgotten. If friends so desire memorial donations in Peters memory may be made to the Beausejour District Hospital or to a charity of ones choice. RUSSELL FUNERAL HOMES LTD & CREMATORIUM of Beausejour Manitoba in care of arrangements. 1-866-424-6271 (TOLL FREE) OR 268-2263.
