LESLIE ERWIN WEIR December 13, 1907 July 14, 2001 Peacefully, after a courageous battle with cancer and surrounded by family, we regretfully announce the death of Leslie Erwin Weir on Saturday, July 14, 2001 at the Deer Lodge Centre, Winnipeg, MB at the age of 93 years. Dad was born at Fitzroy Harbour, ON and was raised and educated in Dauphin, MB. He began his working career delivering bread in Dauphin in 1924. A year later he was able to hire on with the CNR Building and Bridge Department. In the fall of 1927, Dad transferred to train service, working until December, 1972 when he retired as a senior conductor with 46 and a half years of service. While working out of The Pas in the 1930s, he met and was smitten by a pretty young music teacher who had come to The Pas from Winnipegosis. They married in August, 1935, raised their family and lived in The Pas until November, 1996 when they moved to Winnipeg to be closer to family. Dad continued to live in the Westhaven Apartments on Portage Avenue until poor health resulted in hospitalization at Grace Hospital in the fall of 2000 and a subsequent move to Deer Lodge Centre later that same year. In his earlier years, he was accepted as a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 124 in The Pas and remained a dedicated member throughout his active years in the Masons and Khartum Temple Shrine. Dad was a member of the Swan River and District Shrine Club, Khartum Temple of Winnipeg, Temple Past Masters Club, Mount Carmet Preceptory No. 44 and a Life Member of both the Pre-Cambrian Chapter No. 17 of the Masons and the Order of the Eastern Star. While still in The Pas, following retirement, he was actively involved in the organization and formation of the local Golden Age Group. Mourning his loss is his daughter Bonnie Ewing (Ron) of Winnipeg; son Tom (Delores) of Mission, BC; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Violet Weir of Winnipeg and Norma Mitchell and family of Vancouver, BC; as well as numerous relatives and friends. His wife Grace Ann; parents, Noble and Isabella Weir; sister Vivian; brother Mervin; and grandson Scott predeceased him. In compliance with Dads wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. Our family is extremely grateful to the caring and dedicated staff on 2 South at the Deer Lodge Centre. As an expression of sympathy, if friends so desire, donations may be made in Leslies memory to a charity of choice. WOJCIKS FUNERAL CHAPEL & CREMATORIUM WINNIPEG, MANITOBA 897 - 4665

  • Mr. Weir was always the kindest of men. I will always remember his words, "Apple pie without the cheese, is like the hug without the cheese." - Posted by: Kitty McCormick Anderson (Friend) on: Oct 04, 2024
