JOHN LAWRENCE BURNS 1931 - 2001 It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of John Lawrence Burns on Thursday, July 19, 2001. John will be lovingly remembered by his wife Joyce and their children, Michael (Wanda) of Regina, SK, Maureen Duha (Duncan) of Winnipeg, MB, Matthew (Lori) of Vancouver, BC; grandchildren, Patrick and Nicole Burns and Dylan Duha; sister Sheila East and her family, Katie (Shane), Paul (Carol), Sean (Caroline), Mary (Bill) also his sister Patricia Whitney and family of Ottawa. John was predeceased by his dear son John Patrick in 1988; and his parents, John Patrick and Florence Burns. Over the years, John was an active Christian serving the Catholic community and his parish of 34 years, St. Paul the Apostle. After retiring as president of Leckies in 1990, he and Joyce enjoyed their summers at Sioux Narrows and the winters in Florida and his ever expanding family. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 24, at 11:00 a.m. in the Parish of St. Paul the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, 2400 Portage Ave., with Rev. Msgr. Ward Jamieson, P.H., V.G., presiding and Rev. Msgr. Norman J. Chartrand, P.A., concelebrant and homilist. Interment will follow in Assumption Catholic Cemetery, 3990 Portage Ave., Winnipeg. Honorary pallbearers will be John Long, Ed Coughlin, Guy Coughlin, James Mahon, Ted Vardalor, Cy Coughlin and Peter Slezak. Active pallbearers will be Paul East, Sean East, Bill Megie, Shane Stewart, Rick Duha and Kevin McKinnon. Our family wishes to express our sincere thanks to Dr. Richard Blouw, the doctors, nurses and staff at Victoria General Hospital and Health Sciences Emergency Departments. In lieu of flowers, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Johns memory to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation, 301 - 352 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3B 2H8 or to the Victoria General Hospital Foundation, 2340 Pembina Hwy., Winnipeg, MB R3T 2E8.
