MONTE GREEN After a full and happy life, Monte Green, beloved husband of Sylvia, passed away at home on Saturday, July 14, 2001, at the age of 81. Monte was born and raised in the North End of Winnipeg. After graduating from St. Johns High School, he served as a co-pilot and bombardier in the R.C.A.F. during the Second World War. Montes professional career in the customs brokerage industry began at the age of 16 when he started as a messenger at Samson Shaen and Company, and eventually became Vice President and General Manager. During his distinguished 60 year career, Monte was known as a man of integrity whose handshake was as good as his word. Monte also enjoyed a second career as a musician, whose talent on the piano made him a well known figure in local entertainment circles. As a member of Glendale Golf and Country Club, he was an avid golfer and an enthusiastic tennis player. Monte was predeceased by his first wife, Ellen Ostrowsky, in 1964. As a devoted husband and father, he will be deeply missed by Sylvia, his wife of 36 years; his sons, Rick (Kathy), Gary (Joyce), and Larry (Alayna) his daughters, Niki (Yale), Marcie (Laurent), and Shawn (Ian). He will be lovingly remembered by his grand-children, Jill, David, Benjamin, Samuel, Adam, Daniel, Alexandra, and Danielle. Monte will also be lovingly missed by his sister and brother-in-law, Nayna and Dave Kowall; his brother-in-law Jack Marks; his aunt Eve Stoller; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services were held Monday, July 16 at Shaarey Zedek Synagogue, with interment in Shaarey Zedek Cemetery. Pallbearers were Steve Kowall, Benjamin Saifer, Adam Saifer, David Saifer, Samuel Koulack, and Ian Stanlloff. Honorary pallbearers were Laurent Soret, Harold Hyman, Nate Fingold, Percy Goldberg, Stan Goldberg, Harold Schachter, Dave Kowall, and Morrie Shnider. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or charity of choice.
