CATHERINE (KIT) BLUNT Peacefully after a lengthy illness, Kit passed away on Sunday, July 15, 2001. At her side were her goddaughter Joan and her longtime friend Dorothy (Joans Mom.) Kit was born March 16, 1913 at Poplar Grove, SK to Grover and Elizabeth Blunt (nee Laurie). She went into nurses training at the St. Boniface General Hospital in 1936. She graduated in 1939 but due to illness, she actually finished her training in 1940. It was during this time that she worked with Dorothy Webster. When Dorothy married Robert Lyons in 1946, Kit was Maid of Honour. When their daughter Joan was born, Kit became her godmother. She was a big part of Joans life and was Auntie Kit to all Joans cousins and friends. Kit enjoyed studying the history of the Hudsons Bay Company because her working life was spent there as an industrial nurse at the downtown store. She retired in 1978 after working 37 years. She also enjoyed golfing and was a longtime member of the Assiniboine Golf Club. She truly regretted having to give up golf and driving her car as she grew older. She still enjoyed watching golf on T.V. Every dog or cat that made her acquaintance was always treated as a lifelong friend. Kit leaves to cherish her memory her goddaughter Joan Lyons (Chris Simcoe) and Dorothy Lyons of Winnipeg; and her half brother Gerald Blunt of Saskatchewan. Special thanks to Edna Shannon for her friendship, to the staff at St. Boniface Hospital and the staff at G A4 and then G D5 at the Health Sciences Centre. During the last month of her illness, she was in isolation in G D5 and wed like to especially thank her sitters for all their care and compassion. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 19, at 2:00 p.m. in the Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway. A private interment will be held at a later date at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. Donations in Kits memory may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent Street or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 301-352 Donald St. THOMSON FUNERAL CHAPELS 783-7211
