NORMA (PEG) STAVELEY (QUINN)
Date of Passing: Jul 16, 2001
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryNORMA (PEG) STAVELEY (nee QUINN) It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Norma (Peg, as she was known to her family and friends) on July 16, 2001 at Health Science Centre. Peg was predeceased by her husband Leslie in 1977; and daughter Dianne in 1992. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her daughter Norrene; and husband Richard Evans; grandchildren, Kandis (James Stevens), Kurt (Karen Hamm) son in law Don Butcher; grandson Ward Butcher; great-grandson Harlan; granddaughter Joanne (Rob Gordon) great-grandsons, Devon and Reilly. She also leaves to mourn her loss, brothers, Gordon, Chuck and Lawrence Quinn; sisters, Muriel Turner, Dorothy Hanlin, Alice Taylor and Grace Towns; sister-in-law Peg and husband Doug Baxter and their families; and many dear friends. Moms life was all about family, friends and being together. Her favorite times were spent at the cottage at Petersfield, known to all as "Peggys Cove" surrounded by those she loved. New friends were always greeted with open arms, and told "call me Gram". Mom lived her entire life in Winnipeg, growing up in the North End, raising her two daughters in the house next door to where she grew up. Mom was the middle child in a family of 9, and remained close to her remaining brothers and sisters to the end. The " Quinn clan" had a family celebration this past June and she had to be there. She was involved with the Assiniboine Skating Club and the Eastern Star. She worked for The Bay in the Paddlewheel Restaurant and also did catering at private functions. She always found time to make trips to visit her daughters families as they moved around the country, but cherished most the times when we all returned home to stay. Mom greatly enjoyed spoiling her "scallywags", the term she affectionately used for her three great-grandsons. She was known around HSC as the Happy Hooker, because she was never without a crochet hook, making a blanket for the burn victims, premature babies or a cause very dear to her, the Hemophilia Society. As Moms health weakened, she sold her home and moved in with her daughter Norrene, but still managed to get to the lake as often as she could. She spent many happy afternoons at the Geriatric Day Hospital at Seven Oaks Hospital, doing aquasizes in the pool even though she had always been afraid of water. After breaking her hip this winter, she became a resident of Deer Lodge Centre where she was soon a favorite of the wonderful nursing staff. Mom had recently been discharged and returned home for a short time before her passing. The family would like to express their gratitude to everyone at the Hemophilia Society, and the wonderful doctors and nurses of the Health Sciences Centre for their care and thoughtfulness during Moms last days. According to her wishes, cremation has taken place, and a private interment will be held at a later date. A memorial service will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. on Friday, July 20 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hemophilia Society of Manitoba. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL in care of arrangements - 586-8044.
