On Tuesday, July 17, 2001 Roy James Hamill passed away peacefully at the Dr. Evelyn Memorial Hospital, Stonewall. He leaves to remember him with love, affection and sorrow, his sister Dianne; wife Elizabeth (Liz) his four children and their spouses and families, Ian and Mindy (Jesse and Travis) Lindsay and Lisa (Justin, Cody, Carson and Cassidy) Cameron; and Shayla and Wes (Teersten). Also deeply missed by Barbara (Byron) and several nieces, nephews and their families. Roy was born in Hyas, SK on June 16, 1936. He moved to Headingley, MB at age four where he grew up. Roy worked very hard for many years in the automotive industry. Roy and Liz were married in 1961. This was followed by a very busy and happy time of raising four energetic children. His "retirement" was spent enjoying farm life. His greatest joys were time spent with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed his vegetable garden. There was a gathering at the MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, Stonewall, on Wednesday, July 18 at 7:30 p.m. The funeral will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 19 at the MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, Stonewall. Rev. Mary Best and Rev. Marc Whitehead will officiate. Interment will follow in the Victoria Cemetery, Balmoral. Honorary pallbearers will be Ron Ewing, Barry Ewing, Mike Catton, Earl Brown, Orien Brown, John Epp, Paul Wolman, Sam Doherty, Barry Bremner and Arnold McConnell. Active pallbearers will be Dale Hamill, Daryl Hamill, Craig Hamill, Vern Hamill, Clayton Hamill, Stuart Hamill and David Hamill. Many thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Dr. Evelyn Memorial Hospital, Stonewall, who took care of him with much compassion. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, 208 - 900 St. James St., Winnipeg, MB R3G 3J7 or to the Dr. Evelyn Memorial Hospital Foundation, Stonewall, MB.
