DR. R. IMOGENE McINTIRE Dr. R. Imogene McIntire, daughter of Rosa L. DeBell and John L. McIntire, was born April 14, 1915 in Lexington, KY, the second of six children. She was preceded in death by Lucille Winder, John, Gordon, and Arthur and is survived by Dorothy Urbahns of Terre Haute, IN. Dr. McIntires aspiration to teach was evidenced early when, at seven-and-a-half, she taught four-year-old Dorothy to read. This desire led her to obtain degrees from Ball State University and Indiana State Teachers College, culminating in a Doctorate from Penn State University in State College, PA. Dr. McIntire taught in American public schools for 25 years with a year off to teach military dependents in Japan at the end of the Second World War. From elementary schools she went to the University of Cincinnati and the University of Manitoba where she inaugurated the Early Childhood Education Program. Dr. McIntire retired from U of M after 19 years, having achieved, in her career, every professional goal she had set. Her students and colleagues remember her with great respect and admiration. A Celebration of Life will be held in September at the University Faculty Club. Interment will be in the Lexington National Cemetery in Lexington, KY. THOMSON FUNERAL CHAPELS 783-7211

Imogene McIntire was my father's older sister. I loved her dearly, miss her, and think of her often. - Posted by: Stuart McIntire (nephew) on: Feb 25, 2015
