DEREK HENRY BRADLEY On July 17, 2001 at his residence, at the age of 70, Derek Bradley was called home. Derek was born in Folkestone, England and raised and educated in North Yorkshire. He started his career in Electrical Engineering with South Durham Steel Company and held a supervisory position with the maintenance department prior to joining the British Army (Royal Electrical & Mechanical Engineers 1950 - 1953). Following military service he continued his career with the Exploration Division of British Petroleum Company Ltd. and served in Saudi Arabia and the Persian Gulf regions and also in the oil fields of the North Sea. In 1967 he immigrated to Canada and held a supervisory position with the maintenance department of Manitoba Rolling Mills for nine years. In 1976 he accepted the position of District Manager with Manitoba Government Services and remained there for the 14 years preceding his retirement. Derek was a 35 year member of Branch 42, Royal Canadian Legion and Past President of Unit 151 ANAF. He was also a proud member of the choir of Knox Presbyterian Church. Left to mourn his passing are his beloved wife Jan and her children, Kate and Simon; his brothers, Roy (Cath) of Warrington, UK, and Michael of Jackson, TN; his sons, David (Marlene), Neil (Alanna), Ian (Michelle) and daughters, Janet and Alison; grandchildren, Graham, Nicole, Brett, and Victoria. He will be missed by many friends and distant relatives. At his request, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at Knox Presbyterian Church, Selkirk, on Friday, July 20 at 2:00 p.m., with The Rev. Dr. George Shillington officiating. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations in lieu may be made to Knox Presbyterian Church, Memorial Fund. The family wishes to extend grateful appreciation for the care Derek received from Dr. Antonenko. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk, in care of arrangements.
