PATRICIA J. KJARTANSON (nee SMYTH) Suddenly on Sunday, July 22, 2001 at the Grace General Hospital, Pat Kjartanson passed away while recuperating from major surgery. Pat was predeceased by her father Henry, mother Edith (Hamilton) and her brother Harry Smyth. Left to mourn her passing are her loving husband John; sons, Kelly (Jennifer) and Bruce (Cathy) and grandchildren, Bryan, Nicole, Melanie and Jonathan; brother Sidney (Jeanne) and sister Eileen (Foster) and numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews. Pat was born in Winnipeg on June 7, 1930. She attended Daniel MacIntyre High School and modelled and worked at the Hudson Bay Company after graduation. She then worked at the Manitoba Power Commission where she met her loving husband John. In October 2000, Pat and John celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with the company of their immediate family. Upon the arrival of their children, Pat managed the household. She enjoyed bowling and curling, having bowled at the Dogpatch Bowling League for over 25 years. Pat also took a great deal of pleasure from the making of ceramics as a hobby and from giving her beautiful works to her friends and family as gifts. Crossword puzzles proved to be an intriguing part of her life. Pat and John enjoyed travelling and, until recently, had spent time in San Diego every winter. She always had an amusing anecdote to recite to her family and friends. Pat enjoyed her regular outings with sister-in-law Jeanne and close friends, Connie and Kay, as well as her regular hair appointment with Mario. The regular Kjartanson get togethers also played a large part in her life. The light of her life was her family, with a special spot in her heart for her grandchildren. Pat will be truly missed by all, and she will be especially remembered for her generous and caring nature. Thanks to Dr. Shelley Parham and all the wonderful nurses and staff on the fourth floor of the Grace Hospital. The family gratefully declines flowers and encourages well wishers to send a donation to the charity of their choice in memory of Pat. Deep are the memories Precious they stay, No passing of time can take them away. Quietly your memory we treasure, Missing you always, forgetting you never. Viewing will be held from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 24 at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Ave., Aubrey Street entrance. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, at Charleswood United Church, 4820 Roblin Blvd. at Dieppe. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200
