LAINA ELINA WAUHKONEN Passed away suddenly on Friday, July 20, 2001 at the Health Sciences Centre, at the age of 89 years. Laina will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her children, Rudolph Wauhkonen, Allan Wauhkonen, Ken Wauhkonen (and good friend Verne Slater), Lynn Ryzniczuk (and husband Wayne Ryzniczuk) grandson Bill; as well as nieces and nephews. Laina was predeceased by her husband Viljo Wauhkonen; as well as her brothers Frank Niemi, George Niemi, Reino Neimi, and Levi Niemi; sisters Lillian McAllister and Esther Johnson. Laina came to North America from Finland during the First World War and, for a large part of her life, lived a very challenging pioneer lifestyle. This life formed her unique character of extreme strength and determination. Thanks to the staff at Misericordia Place for their caring during the last few months. A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 27 at 3:00 p.m. at the Westminister United Church, 745 Westminister Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of ones choice.
