Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLEO ACKERS Peacefully, on Tuesday, July 24, 2001, Leo Ackers passed away at the age of 76, after a short and courageous battle with cancer. Leo was born in Austria on December 2, 1924. He came to Canada with his parents, two sisters and a brother in 1929 and first settled in Beausejour, MB. Later, he moved to Winnipeg where he attended school. He worked at various jobs, but soon decided to join the Canadian Armed Forces as a member of the Military Police. After the war, he decided to go west and ended up in Edmonton, Alta. in the construction field which, until recently, had been his lifes career and passion. After retirement, he continued to enjoy woodworking. He came back to Winnipeg in 1956 where he met Anne and they shared their lives together for 45 years. He leaves to mourn his wife Anne; his daughter Val (Earl) Worona and two grandsons, Ryan and Kevin; his nephews, Harold (Cora), Art (Ruth), Gordon (Nancy) and niece Charlotte and their children. He was predeceased by his parents; three brothers and two sisters. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 28 at 4:00 p.m.at Sobering Funeral Chapel, Park Ave. E. Beausejour, MB. with Pastor Jan Pastuka officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St. Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7 or to a charity of ones choice.
