KATHERINE (KATIE/KAY) WAZNEY (nee MLODZINSKI) Peacefully, with her family at her side, Katie passed away on Wednesday, July 25, 2001 at the Concordia Hospital at the age of 88. Katie was pre-deceased by her loving husband Stanley in 1970, her parents, brother Andrew, sister Annie, and grandson Darren. Katie leaves to cherish her memory her sons, Victor (Marge) and Raymond (Carol) and daughter Dorothy LaFontaine (Bob) as well as treasured grandchildren, Debbie (Reid), Sharon (Byron), Shelley (Drew), Brenda (Brad), David (Jodi) and Kyle (Wendy) and great-grandchildren, Hailley, Shaun, Brendan, Morgan, Ryan, Jared, Kendall, Breanne, and Kristen. She is also survived by her sister Mary Tomczak, and brother John (Sophie) Mlodzinski, and many relatives and friends. Katie was born in Poland on November 12, 1912 and came to Canada as an infant with her family. She grew up on a farm in Highland Glen and married Stanley in 1931. After living on the family farm, they moved to Garson and raised their family. Katie enjoyed doing special things for her family, and sharing with friends and neighbours. She took pride in her garden and was very involved with her church. In 1974, she moved to Donwood Manor where she made many new friends. Katie was very involved as a volunteer and enjoyed the various recreational activities. She lovingly knitted and crocheted afghans and beautiful tablecloths for her family. She felt especially blessed to bring communion to the shut-ins at Donwood Manor for many years. Katie always had a special place in her heart for all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Prayers will be held on Sunday, July 29 at 8:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 30 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Roman Catholic Church, 264 Donwood Dr., with Rev. Fr. Ray Baudry officiating. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Garson, MB. Pallbearers will be Reid Cunningham, Byron Prendergast, Brad Semenko, David Wazney, Kyle LaFontaine, and Ken Mlodzinski. The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to Fr. Ray for his many hospital visits, support and prayers; and to Drs. Bergen and Alvi and to the nursing staff on N1 North at Concordia Hospital for their loving care and concern.
