Al was born on the family farm in the Fone Hill District near Yorkton on March 1, 1925. He was predeceased by his father Dmytro (Metro) on December 28, 1959 and by his mother Mary on February 17, 1966. In addition, he was predeceased by four brothers, John, George, Metro, and Steve; and by six sisters, Mary, Jessie, Kathleen, Nettie, Emma, and Molly. Al married Rose Negrich on September 29, 1946 at Roblin, MB, and their first home was in Yorkton. He spent 30 years in senior management positions with the Federated Cooperative Limited and the Credit Union in Manitoba and Saskatchewan before taking an early retirement when he and Rose returned to Yorkton. This happy homecoming permitted them to become involved in the Ukrainian Orthodox community in Yorkton. Al volunteered countless hours of each day of his retirement to the work of the church community and the Church Executive on which he served as Treasurer for many years until the time of his death. Al was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. His happiest and most rewarding moments were the times he spent with his family. Al leaves to mourn his departure his loving wife Rose; his two devoted sons, Barry and Terry; his treasured daughter-in-law Lillian; and his two precious granddaughters, Renee and Janelle. He will also be missed by his one remaining brother Nick and wife Bella of Yorkton, as well as several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, many nieces, nephews, and cousins, and many, many friends. Prayers will be held on Friday, July 27 at 7:00 p.m. in the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Holy Transfiguration (Yorkton). Divine liturgy will be held from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Holy Transfiguration in Yorkton on Saturday, July 28 at 10:00 a.m., with Right Rev. Fr. Jakiw Rybalka officiating.
