ROLAND GARAND After a long struggle, Roland Garand passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2001 at St. Boniface Hospital where he was born 75 years ago. Roland leaves to mourn, his wife of 48 years Gilberte nee Emond; as well as his seven children, Suzanne (Ron Tachnak), Jacqueline (Terry Erickson), Adrien (Mary Sears), Claude (Louise Freynet), Monique, Marc (Jacqueline Chamberland), Louise (James Soko). He also leaves to mourn his 15 grandchildren, Rene, Michelle, Chantal, Jared, Danielle, Erica, Marcel, Daniel, Serge, Christine, Christian, Stephanie, Michael, Jessica, and Julie; as well as four great-grandchildren. He also leaves his sister Ceona LHeureux (Sally) of Edmonton, AB; his sisters-in-law, Sister Denise Emond, Louise Rey (Louis), Jeanne Garand, Agnes Laurin, and Therese Vermette of Winnipeg; his brother-in-law Yves Emond, of Foster City, CA; as well as many cousins and dear nieces and nephews. Orphaned at 12 years of age, Roland spent some years with his sister Ceona in Coal Valley, AB. In 1946 he returned to Manitoba. With his friend and partner, Raymond Meyres, he started his own successful business G&M Electric. After retirement our husband, father, grandfather, and friend spent his leisure time enjoying his family, playing cards, reading and bowling. Roland was a calm, patient, giving father and grandfather. He was always happy to see everyone and happiest surrounded by his many children and grandchildren. He was totally devoted to his family. Roland was very brave and showed great courage until the very end. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, July 30, at St. Eugene Church, 1007 St. Marys Rd. in St. Vital. Fr. Marcel Toupin will officiate. The family would like to express its heartfelt thanks to the devoted and caring nurses, doctors, surgeons, and other staff in the SICU and 2B wards at St. Boniface Hospital. Special gratitude to the chaplains and the pastoral care who kept up our morale through this long ordeal. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. ROLAND GARAND Apres une lutte difficile, entoure de sa famille, Roland Garand est decede le mercredi 25 juillet 2001 a lhopital de Saint-Boniface ou, le 13 octobre 1925 il y vit le jour. Il laisse dans le deuil, sa chere epouse de 48 ans Gilberte nee Emond et ses sept enfants, Suzanne (Ron Tachnak), Jacqueline (Terry Erickson), Adrien (Mary Sears), Claude (Louise Freynet), Monique, Marc (Jacqueline Chamberland), Louise (James Soko). Il laisse aussi ses quinze petits enfants, Rene, Michelle, Chantal, Jared, Danielle, Erica, Marcel, Daniel, Serge, Christine, Christian, Stephanie, Michael, Jessica, et Julie; et ses quatre arrieres petits-enfants; sa soeur Ceona (Sally) LHeureux dEdmonton, AB; ses belles soeurs, Sr. Denise Emond, Louise Rey (Louis), Jeanne Garand, Agnes Laurin et Therese Vermette de Winnipeg; son beau frere Yves Emond de Foster City, CA; ainsi que de nombreux neveux et nieces, cousins et cousines, qui lui etaient tres chers. Orphelin a 12 ans, Roland passa quelques annees avec sa soeur Ceona a Coal Valley, AB. Il revint au Manitoba en 1946 et exerca le metier delectricien. Il eut beaucoup de succes avec sa propre entreprise G&M Electric quil fonda avec son associe et ami Raymond Meyres. Roland etait un homme calme et paisible entierement devoue a sa famille. Ses passe-temps favoris etaient ses petits enfants, la lecture, les bonnes parties de cartes, les reunions familiales ainsi que les jeux de quilles. Toujours brave devant sa maladie, il demontra jusqua la fin un courage sans pareil. Il laissera derriere lui le souvenir dun homme de famille exemplaire. La celebration de la vie de Roland aura lieu en leglise Saint-Eugene, chemin St. Marys le lundi 30 juillet a 14h00. La ceremonie sera presidee par labbe Marcel Toupin. Ceux qui le desirent, peuvent exprimer leur sympathie en offrant un don a une charite de leur choix. La famille aimerait exprimer sa profonde reconnaissance au personnel devoue des soins intensifs qui ont demontre une grande compassion envers Roland ainsi qua sa famille durant cette dure epreuve. Un merci special aux aumoniers et au service de pastorale qui ont chemine avec nous pendant ses jours difficiles. La direction des funerailles de M. Roland Garand fut confiee au salon mortuaire LeClaire Freres.775-2220.
