WALTER HAPKO Peacefully, and surrounded by the love of his wife Phyllis, Walter passed away on Wednesday, July 25, 2001 at the Pinawa Hospital. Walter was born in Brightstone, MB on October 28, 1927 and lived most of his life in Lac du Bonnet, Mb. He was predeceased by his parents Jacob and Julia; brothers, Edward, Carl and John; and sister Bertha Parker, as well as a very special nephew Charles Hapko. Walter will be forever loved and dearly missed by his devoted and loving wife of 39 years, Phyllis. He also leaves to mourn his brother Rudy (Mary), sisters, Jean Pascoe, and Millie Cuculick (John) as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Walter was a kind and gentle giant of a man who enjoyed his home, gardening, picking berries and mushrooms, fishing the spring run and his "tandem". Walter was self-employed and bought his first tandem in the 1950s. He owned and operated a gravel and soil hauling business, Walters Sand & Gravel. He also operated a small farm until illness forced his retirement in the 1990s. He also established and operated Walters Shell on the corner of P.R. 502 and Hwy. 11 from 1960 - 1973. Over the past several years, many people have been involved in caring for Walter. Phyllis would like to express her appreciation to the doctors, nurses and staff of both the Selkirk and Pinawa General Hospitals, the home care workers, ambulance attendants and friends and relatives. Your many acts of kindness, your thoughts and your prayers helped to ease the burden. Funeral liturgy will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 31 at 11:00 a.m. at the Notre Dame du Lac Roman Catholic Church, Lac du Bonnet with Rev. Fr. R. Machura presiding. Interment will follow in the Brightstone cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Lac du Bonnet Community Centre, Box 2040, Lac du Bonnet, MB, ROE 1AO.
