ELEANOR MAE RIACH The Riach family sadly announce the passing of beloved sister and aunt, Eleanor Mae, at age 77 on July 23, 2001 at Oakview Place in Winnipeg. Eleanor was born and raised in Ridgeville, Manitoba. Her free spirit then led to a checkered working career which took her coast to coast in Canada. The winding trail included employment with Canada Car in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Boeing Aircraft in Vancouver and Union Packers at Calgary, war time service as a CWAC in Western and Eastern Canada and latterly, participation in various business ventures in Calgary and Central Alberta. She was active in sports throughout her life, enjoying golf, curling, ice skating and bowling but, in particular starring as a softball pitcher. Eleanor also was a big fan of the racing ponies. Eleanor was predeceased by her parents William Ernest and Alma Riach; brother Stewart; in-laws Ted Lee, Lillie, Avis and Lorraine Riach; niece, niece-in-law Karen and Sharon Riach; and very recently, by her cousin and lifetime pal Winnifred (Teddie) Clendon. Left to cherish her memory are brothers Lorne of Ridgeville, Alvin of Winnipeg and Clarence and spouse Thelma of Port Coquitlam, B.C. and sisters Myrtle Lee of Winnipeg and Mildred McCaig and spouse William of Saskatoon, along with many nieces and nephews scattered throughout the West. The family extends special thanks for care and assistance provided to Eleanor during her illness by the staff at Peter Lougheed Hospital in Calgary and at Oakview Place in Winnipeg, by niece Leslie Elwood-Oates and spouse Ian of Winnipeg and by her landlady and long time friend, Shirley Black of Calgary. A graveside memorial service will take place at the South Ridge Cemetery at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 28, with Rev. A. Armstrong officiating. A reception for the family will follow at the Ridgeville Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made to a charity of choice.
