SAM HASIUK It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our precious father, Gigi and great-Gigi, Sam Hasiuk, with his devoted son-in-law Dan by his side, Sam went to his eternal rest on Saturday, July 28, 2001. Sam was born in selo Sokola, povit Mostyska, W. Ukraine on August 24, 1903, son of Ivan Hasiuk and Pelegia Kureletz. At the age of 26, Sam left his family and his beloved Ukraine with the hope of bettering his life. He arrived in Canada in April 1930. It was in Winnipeg that he met and married Mary Hasiuk (Kozowy). Together, they shared 55 years of happy marriage. Sam held many jobs during his life. He was a very hard worker who believed that physical labour would keep you alive and healthy. He was an employee with the City of Winnipeg Transit until his retirement at the age of 66. Sam was a very religious person whose faith sustained him throughout lifes challenges. He was thankful to God for each new day and felt very blessed by the long life God had granted him. Sam was a longtime member of St. Josephs Ukrainian Catholic Church and St. Josephs Seniors Club where for many years, he served as President and Treasurer. Sam enjoyed the simple pleasures of life being with family, singing, gardening, and building. Sam was predeceased by his beloved wife May in 1991; his dear daughter Stephanie on June 25, 2001; brothers, Stefan, Mychailo, Mykola; and sister Maria. Sams memory will forever be cherished by his sons, Jerry and daughter-in-law Evelyn, Ted and daughter-in-law Jan; son-in-law Dan Mitchler; grandchildren, Carol (John) DiGregorio of Palm Harbour, FL, Greg (Sandra), Mary-Ann and Patricia Mitchler, Laura and Lisa Hasiuk; great-granddaughters, Amanda and Angela DiGregorio of Palm Harbour, FL; cousins, Ivan, Kateryna, Stefan, and Olha of Ukraine. Prayers will be sung 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 1 at St. Josephs Ukrainian Catholic Church, 250 Jefferson Ave. Divine liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 2, also at the Church with Very Rev. J. Sianchuk, C.Ss.R. officiating. Interment to follow in Holy Family Cemetery. We will all miss Sams wisdom, advice, strength, sense of humour, and zest for life. He was the patriarch of our family and his presence will be sorely missed. VICHNAYA PAMYAT KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 956-2193
