NEIL STEWART MCLEOD Following a brief illness, Neil Stewart McLeod peacefully passed away, with his son by his side on Monday, July 30, 2001 at the Grace General Hospital. Left to cherish his memory: his son Darwin (Jamie) grandchildren, Lindsay, Matthew; sisters, Eileen McLeod of Winnipeg, Vina ( Wilbur) Henderson of Morden; and numerous nieces and nephews. Neil was predeceased by his wife June; parents, William and Mary Elizabeth; brothers, Allister and Norman. Neil was born September 10, 1925 in Balmoral, MB. As a young man he moved to BC, where he found work in the mining sector. It was there he met June. Neil became active in the Mine, Mill and Smelter Workers Inc. Union, holding various positions including staff representative. He later worked for the U.S.W.A. in Vancouver, Calgary and until his retirement in Winnipeg. Neil and June were active in which ever community they resided. They could often be seen and heard at baseball games or political events, in support of the working person. He enjoyed hunting, but his first joy was golfing. His golfing buddies believe his ever present pipe, which he placed on the ground in front of his ball, to be a directional beacon. He was always in the fairway. A service of remembrance will take place on Friday, August 3, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. in the Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel, 1501 Waverley Street, with Reverend Don McIntyre officiating. Special thanks to the 5th floor nursing staff at the Grace General Hospital for care and kindness. If friends so desire, donations in memory of Neil may be made to a charity of ones choice.
