JOSEPH CHUDY Peacefully, on Monday, July 30, 2001, after a brief battle with cancer, Joseph Chudy passed away in Arborg Hospital at the age of 73. He leaves to mourn his beloved wife Anne of 49 years; and four daughters, Ginny Baillie, Marge (Larry) Kudelski, Veronica (Joe) Malenchak, and Sue (Grant) Blair. Fondly remembered and missed by his eight grand-children, Jarrod and Karen, Sarah and Kim, Kevin, Jade, Eric and Kristy. He is survived by his brother Walter (Helen) of Toronto; and sister Ella Anderson of Grosse Isle; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Anna; and brothers, John, Stanley, and Bud. Joe was born in Fisher Branch on October 25, 1927 on the farm. He was the youngest of six children. He attended Bartlett School. He went off to work in Winnipeg at Canada Packers for a short while, then took a welding course but returned to upkeep the family homestead farm. On July 12, 1952, he married Anne Uruski. They lived for seven years at Leeland School District, then moved to Poplarfield in 1963 where they resided until his demise. Rather than expand in farming, he started to work as an adjustor for Manitoba Crop Insurance in 1977. He thoroughly enjoyed his work and the contact he made with the farmers. He retired in 1994. Joe took keen interest in the affairs of the community. He was one of the founding members of the Poplarfield Community Centre and was its president for a number of years. He enjoyed curling and participated in many bonspiels. He was also an executive member of the Fisher Game and Fish Association. He was an avid hunter and trapper. Although Joe was a very private person, he enjoyed company and had a good sense of humour. He took pride in watching his grandchildren grow up. He took pleasure in the simpler things in life and knew the reward of a hard days work. The family wishes to express their gratitude to Marge for her devotion and compassion to Dad in his darkest time of need. Sincere thanks to Dr. N. DuPlessis and Dr. Gravenstein and the nursing staff at Arborg Hospital for their care and support. The funeral service will be held at Poplarfield Community Centre on Friday, Aug. 3 at 11:00 a.m. His pallbearers will be Buddy and David Chudy, Joe and Jarrod Malenchak, Larry Kudelski, and Grant Blair. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Fisher Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. (204) 372-6271 or 372-6803.
