Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANNE BIRCH It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, on Tuesday, July 31, 2001 at the Central Park Lodge in Winnipeg, MB. Anne Hrushowy (Birch) was born on February 2 in 1906 to Fred and Rose (nee Kaschak) Hrushowy in Dauphin, MB. The last of nine siblings: Mike, Lena, Peter, John, Mary, Pearl, Steve, and Mary. Predeceased by husband Billy Birch; and children, Gloria-May, Caroline-Ann, Gladys, and Alex. Survived by daughter Marjorie (John) son-in-law Willie Wetelainen; and daughter-in-law Joyce Birch. Grandchildren: Howard (Jane), Berry (Lise), Rob, Ed (Roseanne), Bill (Ruthanne), Mike (Rowena), Warren, Connie, Tom (Elaine), Donnie (Sally), and Allan (Joy). Great-grandchildren: Clement, Willie, Shannon, Curtis, Jennifer, Aimee, Deidre, Gerald, Sarah-Jane, Patricia, Donald, Garett, Darlene, Tyler, Jean, Curtis, Rodney, Ryan, Christopher, Shaun, Tim, Cassandra, Britney, Lindsey, and Shayna. Great-great-grandchildren: Tyler, Jacob, and Jayson. Anne moved to Sioux Lookout in the early 1940s, then moved to Geraldton for five years and on to Longlac where she and her husband Billy built and operated a rooming/boarding house called Anngladmar Inn (known as Birchs rooming house) until 1999. She received the Citizen of the Year Award from the township of Longlac for her support and vision of how the town could grow. She was a true pioneer. Annes faith was very strong and she was a faithful member and supporter of the Roman Catholic Church in Longlac. She was also a member of the Legions Ladies Auxiliary and the Ladies of Isabella. She was known throughout Longlac and area for her wonderful cooking. Her apple pies were renowned. In retirement, Anne knitted slippers continually (except on Sundays) and not only has she supplied the town of Longlac, many Winnipeggers also are proud owners of Annes slippers. The family would like to extend special thanks to all of the staff of the Central Park Lodge in Winnipeg for all of the care and kindness shown to Anne and her family during this difficult time. A time of visitation will be offered on Thursday, August 2 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. from the Ste. Rose Memorial Chapel. Funeral service will be held on Friday, August 3 at 10:00 a.m. from the Rorketon Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church. Fr. Bohdan Borowec will officiate, with the interment to follow in the Weiden Assumption Ukrainian Catholic Parish Cemetery. Should friends so desire, donations may be made in memory of Anne to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba. Ste. Rose Memorial Chapel, Ste. Rose du Lac, MB, in care of arrangements.
