Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKECHIKAMING MIKINAK IKWE HEATHER ROBERTA McKAY On August 2, 2001 following a lengthy illness, Heather passed away in the company of close friends at St. Boniface General Hospital. Heather is survived by her father John McClay and his wife Joan; several brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews and many close friends. Heather dedicated her life to the service of others. She worked for many years as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Following a period of study in Native Cultural Arts she was employed as a Practicum Supervisor and the Health Programs Coordinator at Yellowquill College in Winnipeg. At the time of her passing she worked as the consultant on Aboriginal Midwifery with the Manitoba Health Primary Care Midwifery Unit. Heather was instrumental in establishing midwifery in Northern Manitoba. She was a person of great humility with a deep sense of caring for others. Heather was an unsung artist. She spent many hours sketching and doing beautiful bead and leather work. Heathers Aboriginal Culture was an important part of there life. She took great pride in her culture and spent a great deal of time becoming as knowledgeable as she could about the beliefs and traditions. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, August 8, at 7:00 p.m. at Gilbarts Funeral Chapel, Selkirk, MB. Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends so desire, donations in Heathers memory may be made to the charity of ones choice. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk, in care of arrangements.
