WASHAWAI AMEKSEW GOLDEN EAGLE November 26, 1943 - August 2, 2001 RONALD ERNEST WESLEY Peacefully with his wife and companion at his side, at the Palliative Care Unit, St. Boniface Hospital, our beloved husband, father, grandpa, and friend, passed into his Eternal Life. He leaves beautiful memories for his children, Kevin (Wendy), granddaughter Gloria, Ronald Jr. (Sharon), granddaughter Sunrise, Audra (Ray) of Vancouver, Michael Clarence, and special grandson Kevin Jr., who were his pride and joy. He also leaves his aunts, Judy Wesley, (Ollie) Frances Wesley; cousins, Matilda (Lewis) Muswagon and family, Lorraine Kaplan and family (Love you Budgie) aunt Irene, cousin Sheila and family; many relatives and friends of Fisher River First Nations; childhood buddy cousin David Kirkness (Terry) and family; his sister-in-law Rose Marie Moe (Norman) and family of Calgary; Charlie Desjarlais and family of Prince Rupert, Port Edward, BC; Katherine Desjarlais and family of Edmonton; Lloyd and Agnes Ramsey and family of Lac La Biche; nephew James Ulrich of Owl River; William Stone, teacher, Roadman and Spiritual Guide and family from Mosquito, SK, which he respected in these ways. Ron was predeceased by his many family and friends; mother Edna Wesley Massons at a young age; grandparents, Nellie and Issac Wesley; father-in-law Leon Desjarlais in 1991; mother-in-law Victoria Desjarlais in 1995; uncle Wally Swerhun in 1999; grandson Sage Wesley in September 2000; and good friend Jack Beattie in April 2000. Ron was a residential school survivor. He joined the Queens Own Rifles in 1963 to 1965, and was stationed in Calgary, where he met and married Amelia on December 10, 1964. Ron and Amy and family moved to Winnipeg on August 3, 1978, where he was employed by Westfair Foods as a meat cutter and manager of the Charleswood branch Superstore. He took early retirement in 1998, but returned to work for a short time for Cantors and Casa de Fruita. Ron enjoyed keeping busy remodelling the family home, going fishing, volunteering at schools and the Orioles Community Club where his children were involved. Ron was a very kind and gentle, quiet spirited person, who got along well with others. Most of all he loved having family gatherings and being near his family. In 1995, Ron and Amy joined the Native American Church of Canada and USA, where they met and sat with many relatives; this was Rons most happy time, especially when all his children and grandchildren were able to come to the ceremonies. He loved the Indian way of life; pow-wows, sharing circles, sweats and sundances, all brought meaning to his life. As Ron wished, cremation has taken place. There will be a prayer meeting Saturday night, August 4, with a memorial fast following, at his residence. The Wesley family would like to thank each and every one who had been in any way involved in Rons care, the doctors, nurses and roommates, and to those who offered prayers, songs, kind words, good thoughts, visits and sent hugs our way through this most trying time. May God Bless you all. Megwtch. Dad, you were, and are our biggest inspiration. All that you have taught us will remain with us until we meet again.
