Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRUSSELL GILL DUTHOIT June 15, 1921 - August 2, 2001 Peacefully, at the St. Boniface Hospital, following a stroke, Russ passed away while surrounded by his family. Russ was born and raised on Victor Street in Winnipeg, and served as a Lieutenant on HMCS Chippewa, based in Halifax during the Second World War. After the war, Russ went to become a Chartered Accountant, his strong work ethic kept him busy at major firms such as Canadian Indemnity while also building his real estate business. A strong academic, Russ eventually obtained his Masters in Business Administration and went into teaching at various Winnipeg Schools, simultaneously maintaining his accounting practice, and real estate business. Teaching was his most gratifying profession and retired from Gordon Bell High School in 1986. His many volunteer activities included Head of the Board of Stewards of the Norwood United Church, and President of the Griffins Club, as well as the Norwood Community Club. He enjoyed curling, playing bridge and chess, as well Russ was an ardent and shrewd collector of coins, stamps, and most notable rare books. His specialty was fine bookbindings. Russ and Ruth moved to St. Vital and eventually settled in the Norwood area to raise their three boys, with many summers spent at their cottage at Jessica Lake, in the Whiteshell Provincial Park. Russs robust humor, friendly demeanour, and keen intellect uplifted us all. Russ is predeceased by his wife Ruth, his father Albert, mother Verna and younger brother Raymond. He is survived by his three children, Russ (Pat), Bill (Bev) and Ted (Shelly) five grandchildren, Erin Postl (Ken), Linsay and Jessica Duthoit and Ben and Josie Duthoit; and numerous nieces and nephews.
