PETER J.F. LYONS It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Peter Lyons on Wednesday, August 1, 2001. Peter was born December 3, 1922 in Toronto. Peter will be lovingly remembered by his long time companion Shirley Hartley; by Sheri, Craig and Karen; by his son Connolly and wife Amy; and by the Heywood families, including Norman and Margaret, Al and Sharon, and all of their children. In addition, Peter is survived by his brother John of Brampton; and numerous nephews and nieces, including his niece Dawn of San Francisco and Fred of Toronto. Peter had an active and successful career in business. In the late fifties, Pete worked on the DEW line project. Working for the famous aviation Pioneer "Fish Hassel", Pete was in the middle of the massive air lift required to build the DEW line. When this project ended, he moved to Winnipeg about 1961 for a position as Sales and Marketing Manager, with Transair. When his Transair days ended, he started his own business called "Air Lyons Travel Service" on Portage Avenue. Peter was a proud veteran of the Second World War, serving with the Signal Corps of the Canadian Army in France, Belgium and Holland. Peter was an avid outdoors man and enjoyed many happy times hunting and fishing in Ontario and Manitoba. He also enjoyed playing cribbage and canasta with family and friends. We will all miss hearing Peters great stories and especially his sense of humour. A service of remembrance will take place on Tuesday, August 7 at 11:00 a.m. in the Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel, 1858 Portage Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations in Peters memory may be made to a charity of ones choice.
