JAMES (JAY) ALEXANDER It is with great sadness we announce the passing of a wonderful father and grandfather on Thursday, August 2, 2001 in Victoria General Hospital, Winnipeg, MB. Jay (James) Alexander was born on August 18, 1906 to Joseph and Maggie in Harte, MB, the last of three siblings, Robert, Wilfrid, and Jack. Jay was predeceased by his wife Janet in 1972, and by brothers, Bob in October, 1958, Wilfrid in April 1960 and Jack in 1988. He is survived by his daughter Patti; son-in-law Ken; and grandchildren, Geoff (Lesley), and Pamela (Jason). He will also be fondly remembered and missed by sisters-in-law Dorothy and Beth; brother-in-law Bill; and several nieces and nephews. Jay was born in Harte, MB where he often mentioned he remembered his first day of school. In 1912, he moved to California with his parents. Following his mothers death in 1913, Jay spent some of his childhood in San Francisco before returning to Douglas, MB in 1920 with his brothers, Bob and Wilfrid. Jay served overseas with the army in the Second World War. Following the war he returned to Douglas, and in 1943 he married Janet Hadden. They went to live in Brandon, where he worked on construction. In 1950 Jay started with Brandon Automobiles, where he worked until his retirement in 1976. Jay enjoyed carpentry, planting a garden, and watching baseball and curling. He enjoyed many good times at the family cottage with old friends and family. He particularly enjoyed sitting out on the deck in the sun, sipping a cool "Caesar". He cherished all his "life-long" friends, and thought the world of his grandchildren, Geoff and Pamela. The family would like to extend special thanks to the caring and compassionate staff on 5 South at Victoria General Hospital, Winnipeg. A time of visitation will be held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, Brandon, on Monday, August 6 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel on Tuesday, August 7 at 2:30 p.m. Rev. Joan Jarvis will officiate. Interment to follow at Rosewood Memorial Gardens. Donations in memory of Jay may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB, R3C 2B7, or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 301 - 352 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3B 2H8. Arrangements are in care of Brockie Donovan, Brandon, 204-727-0694. You were always there when we needed you, No task too great or small, With a loving heart and a willing hand For us you did them all. Thanks for the years you gave us, And for the precious times we shared, We only pray when you left us, You knew how much we cared. God saw you getting tired, When a cure was not to be, He put His arms around you, And said "Come unto Me." - Forever in our memories, Pat, Ken, Geoff (Lesley), and Pam (Jason).
