GEORGE RODERICK RUTTAN George Roderick Ruttan, 86, of Victoria, BC, passed away calmly and courageously in the arms of his family, after a brief illness on July 23, 2001. Rod, born in Winnipeg in the fall of 1914, spent most of his working life in the Grain Exchange. He and his dear wife, Olive, embarked on a new adventure in 1967 and moved to Victoria where he joined Canada Permanent in 1973. After his retirement in 1979 he devoted himself to many charitable causes and was a Life Member of The Mount Newton Lodge No. 89 and a past patron of Ruth Chapter No. 22 O.E.S. Saanichton. He leaves his wife Olive at the Aberdeen, niece Mary Kerr-Armitage and her husband John, and brother-in-law Harold Robinson. He was predeceased by his mother and father, Maud and George Richardson Ruttan, and his sister Mary. Walking was a passion and for over 20 years he walked an average of eight miles a day in honour of Terry Fox and the indomitability of the human spirit. He will be remembered for his quiet dignity and gentleness, his wry sense of humour and his true sense of honour. He was loved and will be sorely missed.
