Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELIZABETH (LIZZIE) MARION CHALLIS (nee ENNIS) Peacefully on August 5, 2001, Elizabeth Challis passed away at the Riverview Health Centre. Born on March 10, 1912 at Plum Coulee, MB, eldest of eight children, Lizzie later moved with her family to Ernfold, SK where she met her husband Jack, a blacksmith. They were married on October 3, 1933 in Moose Jaw, SK. In 1941 they moved to St. James in Winnipeg and later to St. Vital where they stayed. Lizzies life revolved around her family. She took great pride in making sure no one left the home hungry. She was well known for her unique pies, bread and buns, and of course her secret recipes such as "snow pudding." She often entered the St. Vital Agricultural Societys Annual Fair and would win prizes for her baking. Lizzie was predeceased by her beloved husband John (Jack) Challis, her parents, Jacob and Anna Ennis; as well as her two brothers, Howard and Garth Ennis; one sister Rose Shearing; and one great-granddaughter Leah Elizabeth Challis. She is lovingly remembered by her children, Joyce (George) Schwartz, John (Bonnie), and James (Ione) her seven grandchildren, David, Donald, and Dale Schwartz, Belinda Challis and Holli Cianflone, Melanie Dorrington and James Challis II; as well as 11 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her four sisters, Cora Pile, Alice (Frank) Bird, Gladys Laville, and Naomi Vance, all of BC; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers are her grandsons, David, Donald and Dale Schwartz, James Challis II, Angelo Cianflone, David Korkosh and Mark Dorrington. The family would like to thank the staff at the Riverview Health Centre for their care and compassion in looking after our Mother. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Elizabeths memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 301-352 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB, R3B 2H8. Service will be held at Regents Park United Church, 613 St. Marys Rd. on Thursday, August 9 at 1:30 p.m. Interment will follow the reception at the St. Vital Cemetery.
