Date of Passing: Aug 04, 2001
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryFRIEDRICH (FRED) WILHELM MEISNER At home, on Saturday, August 4, 2001, with his wife at his side, Fred Meisner, aged 83 years, passed into the presence of the Lord. He was born in Winnipeg and moved as a teenager to Moosehorn, MB, where he met and married Martha Breitkreitz. They began their family there and returned to Winnipeg in 1953, where he spent the rest of his working career (30 years) employed as a driver with Winnipeg Transit. Dad faithfully attended Grant Memorial Baptist Church and was a very active member, serving on the board and participating in many other ways. In the last year Fred was not well, suffering the effects of strokes. He so very much looked forward to being released from his body and going into the presence of his Saviour, Jesus Christ, whom he accepted as his Lord in 1934. His favourite Scripture verse was II Timothy 1:12, "...for I know Whom I have believed, and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I have committed unto Him against that day." Now he celebrates forever! Fred was predeceased by his parents; two sons; three sisters; and one brother. He leaves to mourn his passing his beloved wife of 60 years, Martha (nee Breitkreitz) four daughters, Lorraine and John Johnson of Winnipeg, Donna and Doug Breuls of Vancouver, Joy and Ken Epp of Missouri, and Kathy and Abe Friesen of Dauphin; three sons, Ron and Judy, Paul and Alice, and Lorne and Esther, all of Winnipeg; 26 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one sister, Tillie and Walter Makus; one sister-in-law, Ruth Meisner; and many other family members and a wide circle of friends. The funeral service will be held at Grant Memorial Baptist Church, 877 Wilkes Ave., on Tuesday, August 7 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastors Lorne Meisner and Alf Bell officiating. Interment will follow in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4000 Portage Ave., Winnipeg. If friends so desire, donations may be made to Wycliffe Bible Translators or the Grant Memorial Baptist Church Building Fund, available at the church.
