FREDERICK ALFRED SPIRING After a brief illness, it is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Frederick Alfred Spiring of Winnipeg on Saturday, August 4, 2001. Remaining to forever cherish Freds memory are his wife of 48 years Pat; brother Syd; sons, Rick (Britta), Charlie, Jamie (Sherri), Pat (Paula) beloved grandchildren, Erika, Cole, Brett, Sarah, Samantha and Dustin; family; and his faithful companion Duke. He was predeceased by his parents, Frederick and Janet Spiring. Fred spent more than 30 years with Canadian National Railways, retiring in 1985. Throughout his years, he was actively involved with Charleswood Legion #100, serving in many capacities. He was awarded with first, an Honourary Legion Membership for his community involvement including work with the boy scouts and jam pail curling, and later, with a Certificate of Merit "in recognition of work as Secretary to the Branch and Curling Club plus his dedication to Legion sports activities." After retiring Fred spent many happy hours among friends at his beloved Duck Shack at Tin Town in the Delta Marsh. His involvement in baseball was also one of Freds passions, first as a member of the Charleswood Mens Fastball Association and later as a founding member of the Charleswood Seniors Over 40 and then Over 60 Slowpitch Baseball Association. Upon induction as an honourary life member in 1996, the Charleswood Seniors Slowpitch Baseball Association presented a plaque to Fred with the inscription "Your leadership and dedication has been an inspiration to all members of the Charleswood Seniors Slowpitch Baseball Association." In accordance with Freds wishes, no formal service will be held. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations can be made to a charity of ones choice.
