Walter is survived by his wife Mabel (nee Chwartacki) children, Ron (Charlotte), Sharon, Mitchell (Kimberly), Tracy (Al) Grieve and Christy (Tad Collier) grandchildren, Whitney, Jillian, Hadley, Tristan, Katya, and Corbin; sister Lillian Zaretski; sister-in-law Victoria Zaborniak. Walter was predeceased by his parents, John and Mary Zaborniak (nee Rosmus) sisters, Mary and Susan; brothers, Casmer and Frank. Walter grew up on the family farm in Melrose, MB, where he resided until his illness forced him to move to Kin Place Personal Care Home in September 2000. He enjoyed woodworking, stained glass, playing guitar and above all fixing anything that needed repairs. A "jack of all trades", he was known for his kindness and willingness to help others, often leaving his own work unattended to as a result. Walter began his working career with Brewery Products in 1957 and continued with Labatts and Associated Beer Distributors, retiring in 1990. He volunteered his time over the years as Secretary of Melrose School, on the Parish Council at St. Michaels Roman Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus of Cooks Creek Council and as Board Member of Beauserve Home. Mabel and Walter enjoyed travelling and meeting new people throughout their 49 years of marriage. In spite of his illness the last few years, he always met friends and family with a smile. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 8 at 11:00 a.m. in the St. Michaels Roman Catholic Church, Cooks Creek, MB with Fr. Sebastian Gacki officiating. Viewing will be held one hour prior to service time. Cremation to follow with interment to take place at a later date. Walters family wishes to thank the Kin Place Personal Care Home staff in Oakbank for their support and care throughout his illness. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kin Place Personal Care Home, Box 28, Oakbank, MB, R0E 1J0 or to the Alzheimer Society, 205 Edmonton St., Winnipeg, MB, R3C 1R4.
