Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryETHEL THOMASINA CAWSTON Ethel was born Ethel Davidson on June 13, 1897 at the Davidson family "Springbank Farm", southwest of Neepawa, to parents, Robert Alexander and Thomasina Gerrond Davidson. She passed away in Eastview Lodge, Neepawa, on Sunday, July 15, 2001 at the age of 104 years. Her early education began at the Osprey Country School and she completed her schooling in Neepawa after her parents moved into town. Following Normal School training, she began a teaching career which included Rookhurst Country School, Eden Elementary School and Kelwood Elementary School. On November 15, 1922, Ethel married G.W. "Bill" Cawston and they settled in Kelwood, MB. She devoted time to her church, playing the organ and as a W.M.S. member (later U.C.W.), she also played an active part in community affairs as a school trustee. Her leisure time was taken up with her music, handwork and reading. After her husbands death in June 1954, Ethel remained in Kelwood until 1970 when she moved into an apartment in Neepawa. Later she moved to the new Kinsmen Kourts building where she shared her music with others, as the official pianist for the residents. Ethel moved to Eastview Lodge in October 1992 and resided there for almost nine years. Ethel was predeceased by all her siblings, her husband, and two daughters, Ruth and Jean. She is survived by her son Clare, daughter-in-law Joyce and grandchildren, Kathy Corey, Bruce Cawston, Ron Cawston, Vicki Jerke, Tim Wetherill, and their families. The funeral service took place at Neepawa United Church on Thursday, July 19, with Rev. George Cargo officiating. Interment was in the Kelwood Cemetery. Acting pallbearers were Harold Wood, Campbell Wood, Russ Newton, Alf Newton, Wilf Smith and Ed James.
