Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMIGUEL SILVEIRA BETTENCOURT On August 7, 2001, Miguel Silveira Bettencourt passed from this world at the age of 72. Miguel was born on July 7, 1929, eldest son of 11 in Sao Jorge, Azores. He immigrated to Canada in 1959, becoming one of the first Portuguese immigrants to arrive in Winnipeg. Two years later his wife Aldevina, and son Lino, joined him in Canada to start a new life. Miguel always worked very hard to provide for his family. Although the early years were difficult, they eventually adjusted and learned to love their new home. Miguel worked for many years as a construction labourer employed by Copetti Masonry. Most recently, Miguel worked as the caretaker at the Immaculate Conception Parish in Winnipeg until 1993 when he retired. Miguel leaves to cherish his memory his children, Lucy (Carlos) Machado, and Lino (Debbie) grandchildren, Rianna, Jordan, Lucas and Nicholas; cousin Victoria (Tony) Almeida; nine brothers and sisters; and a large extended family in California. He was predeceased by his wife Aldevina in 1982, who died unexpectedly, leaving him a widower at the age of 53 years, with a 15 year old daughter to raise on his own. He eventually became accustomed to his quiet life and was always very proud to be independent. Miguel had a deep faith and was a well known and respected member of the Portuguese community. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him. Dad, you taught us so many important things. You taught us the foundations of our religion and our culture. We will miss your intelligence, wisdom, sense of humour and love so much. We were proud to be your children. We will miss seeing you tend to your beautiful garden that you loved so much. God has taken you to a better place; a garden in paradise. We will always love and remember you - until we meet again. "Adeus Pai" The family wishes to extend its appreciation and gratitude to the staff of Concordia Hospital, Dr. Mohammed and the many others who were involved in Dads care. Should friends so desire, donations may be made to the Salvation Army. Vigil prayers will be held at 8:00 p.m. Friday, August 10, at Immaculate Conception Church, 181 Austin St. Funeral liturgy will follow at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 11, with Rev. Fr. Jose Eduardo Medeiros officiating. Committal Assumption Cemetery. BARDAL FUNERAL HOME 843 Sherbrook Street, 774-7474
